As três propriedades da família (Château Aumèdes, Château Villenouvette e Domaine de Saint Maurice) estão situadas aos pés das colinas a oeste de Narbonne, no coração da Occitânia. Localizadas a cerca de 20 km do mar e em altitudes que variam de 20 a 140 metros, as vinhas beneficiam-se do clima mediterrâneo típico de toda a região de Narbonne. Este clima é caracterizado por verões quentes e secos, invernos relativamente amenos, precipitações pouco frequentes mas às vezes violentas, um regime intenso de ventos durante todo o ano e muita luz solar. Os ventos predominantes, o cers e a tramontana, sopram do oeste e noroeste. Eles secam a atmosfera enquanto a resfriam no inverno e a aquecem no verão. Em contrapartida, a brisa do mar (chamada “marin” ou “levant”) é úmida e suaviza as temperaturas.
Graças à diversidade geológica local, as videiras são plantadas em uma grande variedade de solos, que vão desde arenito ferruginoso até seixos rolados, passando por solos calcários e argilosos ricos em fósseis marinhos.
Vindo da Bacia do Mediterrâneo e de outras regiões, dezessete variedades de uvas são cultivadas nos vinhedos dos Domínios Barsalou. Graças à vasta expertise sobre o solo, as diferentes variedades de videiras são plantadas nos terrenos mais adequados para seu desenvolvimento, permitindo a produção de uvas de qualidade perfeita.
The Barsalou Family has been cultivating land in the south of Languedoc for over 200 years. The three estates of the family (Château Aumèdes, Château Villenouvette and Domaine de Saint Maurice) are situated to the foot of the hills lying west of Narbonne, in the heart of Occitania. Located about 20 km (≈ 12 mi) from the sea and at an altitude rising from 20 to 140 m (≈ 65 ft to 460 ft), the vineyards benefit from a Mediterranean climate like the whole region of Narbonne. This climate is characterized by hot and dry summers, fairly mild winters, infrequent but sometimes violent precipitation, an intense wind regime throughout the year and a lot of sunshine. The prevailing winds, the cers and the tramontane, blow from the west and the north-west. They dry the atmosphere while cooling it during the winter and heating it during the summer. In contrast, the sea breeze (called “marin” or “levant”), humid, softens the temperatures.
Thanks to the local geological diversity, the vines are planted on a wide variety of soils ranging from ferruginous sandstone to rolled pebbles through limestone and clay soils rich of marine fossils.
From the Mediterranean Basin and elsewhere, seventeen grape varieties are grown in the Domaines Barsalou vineyards. Thanks to vast expertise of the soil, the different varieties of vines are planted on the plots most suitable to their growth, allowing for the perfect quality grape production.
